JOSEPHINE PIAZZA VALENTI. March 5, 1923-April 27, 2015. “Beꞌ, I’m home.” Words which Josie’s husband Xavier Valenti, Sr. said to her on so many occasions, she is now saying to him as she joins him in God’s kingdom. They are both home. Devoted and loving mother of Rose Valenti Brugger (Jay), Cynthia Valenti Haun (late Joe), and Xavier Valenti, Jr., Josie passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, April 27, 2015. As she passes from our sight, she enters into the arms of her late parents Anthony Piazza and Mary Fradella Piazza Bowers, joining her late brother Anthony Piazza (surviving spouse Nellie) and her two late sisters, Dorothy Piazza Daleo Brackvitch and Rose Mary Piazza Ortego; the three sisters and their sister-in-law Nellie affectionately sometimes called the “Golden Girls.” Josie was the grandmother of Rachel Chancey, Robin Chancey Evans (Chris), Jody Haun Brown, Larry Haun (April) and John Haun (Jennifer). She was the great- grandmother of Grace Josephine and Chance Evans, Bryce and Cash Haun, and John and Jane Haun. She will be greatly missed by her devoted caregiver Barbara Winslow, who lovingly called her “Mama.” Her faithful feline companion Cinnaman will surely be looking for her. Throughout her life, Josie was known as Mama, G. G., Maw-Maw, Aunt Josie, and Josie Nan. Treasuring her memory will be nieces, nephews, godchildren and many friends. Josie was the consummate Italian wife, mother, cook (love those stuffed artichokes and olive salad) and homemaker. Everyone will recall a wonderful meal at her table and a treat from the candy dish. Feeding people was a joy to her. She was proud of her bay leaf tree and her fig tree. Back in the day, she was a parishioner of St. Raphael Parish, and she enjoyed grocery shopping at Ferrara’s Super Market. She had a great sense of humor and loved stuffed animals, cat figurines, and altering posters, like the time she changed “Chuck Norris to Chuck Norisi” to make him Italian! Relatives, friends of the family, employees and clients of Salon Valenti are invited to celebrate Josie’s life on Friday, May 1, 2015 at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd, New Orleans, LA 70124. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am at the funeral home; followed by a Funeral Mass at 12:00 pm. Interment will follow at All Saints Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, Masses preferred or donations in Josie’s name to the LASPCA.
