

On Wednesday, September 17, 2014, Judith Anne Hartley Costanza, daughter of the late James A. Hartley and the late Avias Herman Hartley, passed away at the age of 70. She had recently been under treatment for metastatic breast cancer and proved to be “one tough cookie;” showing great courage and maintaining a positive outlook throughout her treatment.
She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Louis Bernard Costanza; three sons Samuel (Marie) Auston Costanza, Scott Alexander Costanza and Travis (Katelyn) Lee Costanza as well as her four grandchildren Travis Costanza, Adalee Costanza, Ashlyn Schneida and MiKayla Schneida.
Judith was born and raised in New Orleans, LA, resided in Chalmette, LA for 32 years until moving to Covington, LA after Hurricane Katrina. She retired from the St. Bernard Parish School Board, where she was a paraprofessional at N.P. Trist Middle School and a popular 4H leader, and instructor at the St. Bernard Parish Summer Discovery program for many years. Judith was a Past Worthy Matron of both Star Of The East Chapter, and Rachel Jackson Chapter, and a member of Nova Stella Chapter, Order Of The Eastern Star; Princess of Immanuel Temple, Daughters of the Nile; President, Secretary and Treasurer for Pride Of Crescent City, Local 358, of the Ladies Auxiliary of the United Transportation Union.
A celebration of her life will be held on Monday, September 22, 2014 at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd, New Orleans, LA. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at 12 p.m. with interment following at Lake Lawn Park, in the Terrace Mausoleum.
