Judith Lohr Dauterive was called home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on September 30, 2026, at the age of 86. She was the beloved wife of the late Alvin Dauterive and mother of Ross Dauterive (Kim), Dara Fleming (Mark), Jeanne Genco (Randy), Aimee Wolf (Erich), and Marian Althage (Joey). She was a loving Mamere to 15 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Daughter of the late George Lohr and Inez Ferriot Lohr. Sister of the late Elaine Lohr Voelker.
Judy was born February 16, 1940 in New Orleans, Louisiana, a city she loved and belonged to. She was raised on Congress Street in the 9th Ward, just two blocks from the river, where she spent her days riding streetcars and exploring the city. In 1957, she graduated from Francis T. Nicholls High School and continued her education at Charity School of Nursing, graduating as a proud member of the Charity Class of 1960.
Judy had a heart for nursing and caring for others. After graduation, she flew to Munich, Germany, to marry her high school sweetheart, Alvin. They were married for 51 years until his passing. Together, they had the big family she had prayed for: five children, fifteen grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
In recounting her life, she spoke with gratitude and amazement at its great beauty and how richly she had been blessed. She was nurtured and supported by the love of her parents and her husband, and by the beautiful family she created.
Our mother’s gift was drawing people together and loving them with her whole heart. She was a weaver of people, bringing together her sister, sisters-in-law, and their families, and expanding our immediate family to include nephews, cousins, friends, neighbors, teachers, pastors, and so many others. She prized relationships over possessions and made people feel welcomed, valued, and loved.
She never had an empty seat at her table. For more than 30 years, she organized our family retreat, and for more than 50 years, she was part of a women’s Lutheran retreat. Through these gatherings and through the everyday moments of her life, she shared Christ’s love with everyone she encountered.
Her open heart and generosity of spirit have left a legacy of love, spiritual support, family bonds, and community for her family and friends, and for all those she met and held close. She created a home where Christ was at the center and where there was always room for one more. We, her family, are comforted knowing that the love she so freely shared continues, and that she is now at Christ’s table, surrounded by the company of heaven. And we know that, one day, we will be together with her there.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Service at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, 315 Ridgelake Drive, on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at 12:00 PM. Visitation begins at 10:30 AM at the church. Interment will follow at St. Vincent de Paul #2. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Mt. Olive Lutheran Church.
