Julia Anne “Julie Anne” Claverie Gooch was born in New Orleans on August 17th, 1939 and died peacefully on April 11th, 2025. She was the daughter of Shirley Mae Wahl Claverie and Albert Paul Claverie, and sister to Shirley “Sissy” Curry and Paula Soniat.
Julie Anne attended Louise S. McGehee school and Newcomb College, where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. It was during this time she met the love of her life and future husband John “Jack” Barr Gooch Jr.
Julie Anne and Jack were married October 20, 1960 in New Orleans and immediately started a family. They called New Orleans home for eighteen years and retreated to Pass Christian for summers filled with beach combing, sailing, fishing, tennis and time spent with friends and family.
Over the years, Julie Anne dedicated her time to raising her children and creating a fun, loving home for her family. She was a lifelong member of St. Charles Presbyterian Church. She later worked diligently to lift up her congregation at Pineville Presbyterian Church in Pass Christian, Mississippi through floral management, organizing donations and gathering meals for fellowship. She was also a member of the New Orleans Debutante Club and Pass Christian Yacht Club.
Julie Anne was an exceptional artist, avid reader and tremendous cook. She loved being out on the water supporting Jack and her children on their many sailboat adventures all over the world.
Jack and Julie Anne eventually retired full time to Pass Christian, Mississippi in 2007 where she immediately felt right at home and they both settled into the laid back, but always fervent social calendar of this heavenly coastal town. She delighted in quality time with her three children and four grandchildren, who visited often, teaching them to catch crabs and boil shrimp. More than anything, Julie Anne loved watching her beloved husband out sailing on the race-course and sharing stories and laughter with those she loved most.
People often remarked upon Julie Anne’s fun and kind nature. She was open to talk with anyone and was always fascinated to hear their stories. She truly never met a stranger.
Julie Anne is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Jack Gooch; her children, John B. Gooch III, Shirley Gooch Charbonnet (Michael), Julie Anne Gooch Hammond (Stewart); and four grandchildren, Julie Charbonnet, Helen Charbonnet Gadiano (Nate), Stewart Hammond Jr., and Hailey Hammond.
Ther will be a visitation for family and friends at Lake lawn Metairie Funeral Home at 10:00am on Tuesday April 22nd, 2025 with a funeral service to follow at 11:00am.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Pineville Presbyterian Church in Pass Christian, Mississippi.
