Julia Schaff Murray

Julia Althea Schaff Murray passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family, on January 7, 2017. Born on November 5, 1924, she was a resident of Metairie since 1962. She is preceded in death by her devoted husband of 63 years, William Edward Murray, Jr. and her parents, Magdalena Leibel and Edward Joseph Schaff. As the founding member of the Lucky Ladies’ Club, she was the stoic matriarch and role model for a family spanning five generations. Mother of William E., III (Ruby), Daniel P. (Melinda), Shirley Callegari (John), Richard T. (Bonnie), Michael J. (Gaye), Steven C. (Sandra), Julie Hankel (Charles) and Brian J. (Elizabeth); grandmother of 21; great-grandmother of 13 and great-great-grandmother of 4. The family is thankful for the comfort and support provided by the Sister Servants of Mary. Donations may be made in her memory at 5001 Perlita St., New Orleans, LA 70122. Friends and family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 444 Metairie Rd. Metairie, 70005 on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at 12:00 noon. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. until service time. Interment to follow in Greenwood Cemetery, 5242 Canal Blvd., New Orleans, 70119.
