

Katherine (“Katie”) Coplen Bourg, 36, of Metairie, LA passed away on April 7, 2022, surrounded by her loving family after a courageous two-year battle with brain cancer. A lifelong resident of the New Orleans metro area, Katie was born in New Orleans on August 25, 1985 to Dale Elliott Coplen and Sandra Oswald Coplen. She is survived by her parents and her adoring husband, Jameson Lloyd Bourg; two precious children, Ronan Dale Bourg and Genevieve Claire Bourg; and her sister and lifelong friend, Caroline Coplen Joseph. She is also survived by her grandparents, Robert Junior Oswald and Joycelyn Hymel Oswald; her uncle Scott Michael Oswald; cousins Christine Marie Oswald and Robert Edward Oswald; and her half-brothers Kevin John Coplen and Jason Dale Coplen. Katie was preceded in death by her grandparents Charles Leroy Coplen and Cleo Catherine Grundvig Coplen.
Katie’s passion in life was musical theater. She was a lifelong participant in the local theater community where she shined through both her art and friendship. After attending Ecole Classique and Louisiana State University, she began her career at Carrigee Moore Levy & Flynn. Then after attending University of Holy Cross, she became a teacher at Trinity Episcopal where she taught third grade and pre-school music and drama. She brought to the classroom the inspiring energy and enchanting appeal that she spent her life crafting on stage. Katie was an animated and caring teacher whose magic touched the lives of many students. Her students will always remember her whimsical approach to teaching and her beautiful voice during school chapel. Her friends and family will always remember her goofy sense of humor and her fierce devotion. Katie loved with an urgency that brings comfort to her family. Ultimately Katie achieved her goal for her legacy to be her children, whom she imbued with her love, courage, and vitality.

A memorial service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church at 1329 Jackson Avenue, New Orleans, on Friday, April 29th at 5:30 pm. Visitation with the family will begin at 4:30 pm. A celebration of life party will be scheduled within the next few months.
