Keith David Wells, loving father and devoted husband, passed away Sunday, December 2, 2018 in the arms of his loving wife, Silvia G. Wells, at the age of 64 after a courageous five and a half year battle with cancer. His appreciation for all those who prayed for him, visited, offered words of love and encouragement, or in any way helped him during those five years was immense. It was very important to him that they know how deeply their kindness and support touched him, and how truly thankful he was for them.
Keith was born in Metairie on November 25, 1954 and graduated from Tulane University in 1978. He remained in Metairie where he raised a family and worked at MSA for 39 years, retiring as one of their most successful sales representatives. He later moved to Gonzales, La where he was able to briefly enjoy retirement with his wife.
In addition to his many achievements at work, he also served on the Board of Directors for the National Safety Council, South Louisiana Chapter for over 20 years and was an active member of the Delta Safety Society. He was also passionate about serving on the PTA as Co-President and heading the once popular Father’s Club, The “Craw-Dads,” at Rudolf Matas Elementary School in Metairie which aimed to improve existing structures and amenities, or build new ones at the school through the work of parent volunteers, while his children attended there. He truly loved Christmas and enjoyed being a “Secret Santa” for many families over the course of four decades. His goal in all he did was to improve the lives of his family and those he loved.
He leaves behind his wife of 37 years, Silvia G. Wells, daughters Vanessa L. Wells and Bridget W. Anderson (Brandon), a son Geoff D. Wells, a beloved granddaughter Leighton E. Anderson, and beloved grandson Porter D. Anderson, his mother Vera R. Wells, a brother Elwood A. Wells, Jr. (Belinda), brother-in-law Fernando Gutierrez (Rebecca), niece Kacie W. Stuart (Brad), grandnephew Troy A. Stuart, grandniece Hailey R. Stuart, as well as several cousins and their families. He is preceded in death by his father Elwood A. Wells Sr., and brother Col. Chris H. Wells.
As Christmas was his favorite time of year, our family plans to create Christmas around him for his services, and invite all who attend to join us in celebrating his first Christmas in Heaven by wearing your Christmas best. In lieu of flowers, our family invites you to donate to Keith’s favorite non-profit organization, the Wounded Warrior Project.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd, New Orleans, LA 70124, at 3 PM on Sunday, December 9, 2018 at 3 PM. Visitation will begin at 12 PM. Interment to follow the services at All Saints Mausoleum.
