Kevin William Smith passed away peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, March 14, 2017, at the age of 64 years. Born on November 21, 1952, in New Orleans, Kevin attended Jesuit High School, graduated from Rummel High School, and graduated with his bachelor’s degree from Notre Dame University in 1975. Kevin worked on the river in the family stevedoring businesses, T. Smith & Son and Smith Brothers Marine Co., for most of his life. He also earned his real estate license and became a broker, eventually running his own firm, Advantage Realty. Family gatherings will be a little quieter without Kevin holding court to tell his many stories of childhood shenanigans, life on the river, and fishing on the lake and offshore. Preceded in death by his father, Terence J. Smith; mother, Elizabeth Franket Smith; sister, Barbara Smith Masset; brother-in-law, Fred Masset; and sister-in-law, Alison Goode Smith, Kevin is survived by his best friend and wife of over 40 years, Patt Dolan Smith. Kevin also leaves behind his son, Sean; daughter-in-law, Adrianna Blanchard Smith; daughter, Caitlin; son-in-law, Henry Sockbeson IV; and granddaughter, Caia Elizabeth Sockbeson. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters, Betty Sullivan (and husband Norm), Pat Watkins (and husband Bill), Brian (and wife Alice), and his twin brother Terence J. Smith, Jr., as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, and cousins. As Kevin abhorred funerals, there will be no service at this time, but the family will have a joyous celebration of his life later in the year. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association (http://www.diabetes.org) or the National Kidney Foundation (https://www.kidney.org/), or you may raise a glass of Jack Daniels or Bushmills in his honor.
