It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Laura Gaborit, a cherished mother, devoted wife, talented seamstress, and florist, who departed this life on January 1, 2026. Laura was a passionate member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, where she found joy and purpose in her faith and community.
Laura came to the United States with the help of her brother, Alfredo Figueroa, in December 1984 where she resided in New Orleans since. Soon after, she was able to bring her immediate family to the United States. Through much work and sacrifice she was able to provide a life for herself and children. Throughout her life, Laura opened her home and heart to many, adopting multiple children and providing them with love and support. Her nurturing spirit and kindness created a family filled with warmth and acceptance.
In Laura’s spare time she enjoyed traveling with her family. She traveled to many places such as Italy, France, London, Mexico, Turks & Caicos, El Salvador, and Jamaica. She was an amazing cook and baker, anyone who tried her sweet bread and semitas was always left craving for more. She also loved to sew, draw, and color flowers. Laura’s favorite thing though, was just to be surrounded by all her family.
Laura is preceded in death by her loving husband, Julio Gaborit, son, Rolando Gaborit, her parents, Juana Figueroa and Froylan Martinez, and her siblings, Eliza Martinez, Alfredo Figueroa, Alberto Martinez.
She is survived by seven children, Fernando (Ana), Julio (Marcelina), Maritza (Albert), Ivette (Eduardo), Alfredo, Azucena (Guillermo) and Karen (Juan); 19 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on January 10th, 2026 at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, LA. Visitation will be held from 11 AM – 1 PM with a service to begin at 1 PM.
