Laverne followed in her sister’s footsteps and graduated from Dominican high school. After her time at Dominican, she received a teaching degree from the University of New Orleans. She went on to teach at Catholic and public schools throughout New Orleans, Houma, and Florida. Laverne was a dedicated teacher who devoted her life to the success of her students. After teaching for 37 years, she finally retired in 2011. Even in retirement, Laverne could often be found helping her grandchildren with their schoolwork. She was proud of her Catholic school education and what it provided her in life. She was even prouder to pass down those lessons learned to her children, and grandchildren.
Laverne was an extraordinary woman whose presence left a lasting impact on everyone she encountered. She had a unique gift for making those around her feel truly seen, heard, and loved. No matter what anyone in our family needed, we always knew we could turn to her, and she would offer her support in any way possible. She would light up any room she was in with her sense of humor and bright smile.
She took immense pride in her children and grandchildren, celebrating their accomplishments with unwavering love and support. We would not be the people we are today without the profound influence of Laverne and Charlie. Together, they were the bedrock of our family, guiding us with wisdom and love, and their lessons will continue to shape future generations for years to come.
