Lawrence D. Taffaro, Jr. passed away on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at the age of 78. Born in New Orleans on August 29, 1947, to the late Lawrence D. Taffaro, Sr. and Iris Elaine Fried Taffaro. Lawrence was a graduate of Francis T. Nicholls High School and earned a Master of Architecture Degree from Tulane University. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather whose life was marked by a creative, curious mind and love for family. Lawrence was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 48 years, Cynthia Barocco Taffaro, and his son, Lawrence “Larry” D. Taffaro, III.
Lawrence is survived by his daughters, Nicole Bush, Lisa O’Neill (Brian), and Kristen Girardot (Michael); his grandchildren, Connor Bush, Morgan and Patrick O’Neill, Violet and Ben Girardot; his sister, Elaine Hymel (Bryan); and his brother, Anthony J. Taffaro, Sr.
A distinguished architect until his retirement, Lawrence was a member of the American Institute of Architects, the Contessa Entellina Society, and was active in the Young Living wellness community. He also served in the U.S. Army National Guard. Lawrence loved to travel - particularly on cruises - and enjoyed live music, theatrical productions, visual arts and being with his family. As a lifelong learner, he was always excited to share new ideas and theories with his family and friends over a good meal or a few margaritas.
The family would like to offer their heartfelt thanks to his caregivers at Sunrise Senior Living Facility for their kindness and support.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home on Thursday, March 12, 2026, beginning at 11:00am, followed by a Funeral Mass at 1:00pm. Interment will follow at All Saints Mausoleum in Metairie Cemetery.
