Leatrice has left the building to be with her one, true love, Donald. Their love was forever, married for 69 years. What an incredible gift to each other to be able to go through good times and bad times…always knowing they could make it no matter what. I know when Leatrice reached heaven on April 28, 2022, at the age of 85, Donald was waiting there for her, with Fats Domino playing Blueberry Hill for their first dance, hug and kiss.
Everyone will miss her. She made us laugh and taught us how to laugh at ourselves. Mama was God’s gift to my brother and I.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Donald A. “DiGi” DiGiovanni, Sr., her parents, Mae and Oscar Duet, her sister Dolores “Sam” Duet Rios, and her brother, Oscar “Butch” Duet. She is survived by: her daughter Donnalee Dupaquier (Duke); her son, Donald “Goo” A. DiGiovanni, Jr. (Ann); her grandchildren, Jared Dupaquier, Angela DiGiovanni Gremillion, and Amanda Digiovanni; and her great grandchildren, Marc-Elliott Dupaquier and Leigha Gremillion.
Throughout mama’s pain, suffering and her battle with dementia, there were certain people that gave mama comfort, courage and affection:
Her son-in-law Duke Dupaquier, who opened his home and heart to “mother-in-law” to take her in and help care for her; holding her hand daily and telling her how much she was loved; Without his compassion for mama, I could not have done this on my own;
Her niece, Lisa Quigley, who would sit with her and hold her hand and get her to laugh and go for walks;
My forever lifelong friends, Susan Senn and Marylou Phillips, always taking the time to do anything for us, at any time of the day or night;
My sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Vanessa and Te-Cye Adams, they are truly my sister and brother. They always came to our rescue;
My friend, Jeanne Paisant mama’s hair stylist, who always made mama look good; BUT, she was more than a stylist, in a moment’s notice, we could count on her to be there, with no questions asked, she was there to help…no matter what.
My employers, Curt Kronlage and Eddie Piglia, my sincere gratitude for always being there through my emotional outbursts and doing whatever it took to help me through this time, not worrying if their work got done.
The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation and gratitude for the care, compassion and friendship shown to Leatrice by the staff of Lake Villa House and Hospice Specialists of Louisiana, all of whom helped mama have a peaceful transition.
There will be no memorial service. To honor Leatrice, our mama, we ask you to please honor her by enjoying time with your family and friends…..and if that should include a little cup of Blue Bell chocolate ice cream, mama’s go to favorite food, so much the better.
