Father Meyer, or Bud as he was known to his family, was born February 25, 1932, in New Orleans. He attended Holy Cross High School and graduated from Tulane University ('54). Lee was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the United States Airforce in 1954, earning his wings as a jet fighter pilot in 1955.
In 1957, Lee decided to follow his heart by pursuing a vocation in the Catholic Church. After attending St. Philip Neri College in Boston for Latin studies, he entered Notre Dame Seminary in 1960 and was ordained in 1965.
For 58 years, Father Meyer lovingly and fervently served God and the Catholic community in the New Orleans area beginning as assistant priest at St. James Major Church, then at St. Francis Xavier Church. He later became the founding pastor of St. Brigid. He was transferred back to St. James Major Church as pastor, where he remained for 23 years until his retirement in 2004. Father Meyer continued to serve the community for many years after his retirement. Our uncle was a man of unending faith, peace, honor, wisdom, integrity and wit, and he touched the lives and hearts of so many.
Father Meyer is survived by his beloved sister, Lorelei, his niece Peggy Floyd, nephew Craig Floyd and niece Kathy Boyd, along with their spouses, children and grandchildren, and several very special cousins and close friends.
Thank you, Lord, for sharing this man with us on earth for an amazing 91 years. May his soul rest joyously and peacefully in your arms for eternity.
