Leo Joseph Peters, Jr., entered his eternal life thru his Savior Christ Jesus on Thursday, August 12, 2021, at the age of 63. He was born in New Orleans on August 19, 1957, grew up in Metairie and lived in Harahan and River Ridge. Leo was the beloved husband of 22 years of Violet Johnson Peters and beloved father of Patricia Louise (Tricia), Ellie Michel, and Leo Joseph Peters III. He was predeceased in death by his loving parents, Leo Joseph Peters, Sr. and Louise Caillier Peters, his sister Laurie Marshall and his godson, Michael Scott Armstrong. Surviving him are his sisters, Linda Deichmann (Dan), Leslie Armstrong (Scott), Leigh Jeanne Strain (Greg) and dozens of nieces and nephews. Leo was the adored son-in-law of Patricia Hardouin Johnson, and brother-in-law of Burt Johnson (Lois), Patricia Grantham (Charles), Rudy Johnson, David Johnson (Polly) and Farley Johnson.
Leo attended St. Louis King of France School and was a proud graduate of Holy Cross School, where he was a member of the band, and the University of New Orleans. He retired as a sergeant after 32 years of dedicated service with the New Orleans Police Department. During his career with the NOPD, he served in several districts and on special units including Search & Rescue Dive Team, Mounted Division, Vice Squad, Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) and the Downtown Development District (DDD). He was certified in multiple areas of law enforcement, firearms and tactical instruction and training. It was an honor for him to protect and serve the community.
Leo was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Police Mutual Benevolent Association of New Orleans and Police Association of New Orleans.
Relatives and friends are invited to the memorial service at Covenant Church, 1973 Ormond Blvd., Destrehan, LA, on Thursday, August 26, 2021, at 12 Noon with visitation from 10 AM to 12 Noon. Interment will follow the service at Metairie Cemetery.
