Linda Childress Weider passed away peacefully at home on May 5, 2021 in the company of loving family. Growing up in New Orleans, Linda was a vibrant and spirited part of the community. She attended Holy Name high school, graduating in the class of 1958, and then earned her Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Loyola University New Orleans in 1962. Soon after graduating, her independent spirit led her to Berkeley, California where she married, welcomed two daughters into the world, and worked as a librarian. In 1967 the family moved to Lexington, Kentucky, where Linda delighted in her role as mother, and her zest for life attracted deep connections and life-long friendships. In 1976, she returned to her New Orleans family and re-entered the work force. Her adventurous spirit eventually brought her to South Carolina, where she had a strong appreciation for the beauty and solitude of the Carolina mountains, and again formed deep and lasting relationships. During her time in South Carolina, Linda stepped-into the role of care-giver for her Mother. More recently, Linda was a resident of Bristol, Virginia where she was active in the community and formed special bonds, and of Virginia Beach, Virginia where she lived with her daughter and son-in-law.
Throughout her life, Linda did her best to let faith guide her. She participated in her Parishes and communities, with animal charities and with the American Red Cross. She appreciated music and books. She had a brave, forward-looking soul and a zeal for life and reflection. Linda will be deeply missed by those who were part of her rich life.
Linda is predeceased by her parents Alvin Roch Childress, Junior and Rita Benedict Childress, and by her dear brother Alvin Roch Childress, III. Survivors include her two daughters, Rebecca Anne Weider Lopez and Rachel Weider Shaw; special son-in-laws Manuel Vergara Lopez and Terry Shaw; four beloved nieces and nephews, Daphne Claire Childress, Alvin "Roch" Childress, IV, Paris George Childress, and Melanie Anne Childress Carucci, and numerous dear cousins.
