Luis A. Rodriguez, known as “Freddy”, age 87, passed away suddenly at his home in Metairie on September 7, 2023. Freddy is preceded in death by his best friend and beloved wife of 50 years, Josibel Rodriguez. He is survived by his daughter Vianca Rodriguez Strother and her partner Adam Boudreaux; daughter Elba Rodriguez Capagna; son Louis Rodriguez and his wife Celina; son Manuel Rodriguez and his wife Jill; daughter Michelle Serigne and her husband David; grandchildren who affectionately called him Pappa: Lou, Lexi, Heidi and Haylee Grace Strother, Quinn, Daniel, Trey, and Kyle Capagna, Louis Rodriguez, Maria Gautreaux, Rachel Bean, Mason Rodriguez, Cameron and Jacob Serigne; great grandchildren Sophie Lou, Reese, Max, Louis, Stella Lou, Teddy, and Eli Bean. Also left to cherish his memory is his cousin Julio Alvarado and his wife Josefina; second cousins Julio, Jr., Sandy, Anna, and Jeff Ciolino; sister-in-law Sinai Quinn; godson Lee Kinler; brother-in-law Robert Mendoza; nephew Johnny Mendoza, Jr.; best friend Ray Arroyo and his wife Linda as well as many friends, loved ones and extended family.
Freddy was born in Asuncion Mita, Guatemala. He moved to New Orleans in 1956, residing in Metairie for most of his adult life. He was a devout catholic and a longtime parishioner of St. Phillip Neri Catholic Church. Before retiring he worked for The Great Atlantic & Pacific (A&P) for over 45 years. To know him was to love him. From his cute accent to his huge heart for everyone, he made an enormous impact in our lives and even a bigger impact on everyone that ever knew him. He was always ready to do anything anyone wanted as long as it made them happy. We know he is smiling big now that he is with his Bride, our beloved Mimi. He is also preceded in death by his loving, devoted mother Carmen Menendez; father Hernan Rodriguez; brothers, Rolando Rodriguez, Roberto Rodriguez, Guillermo Rodriguez, Fausto Chicas, Sr., Leonel Borja, Sr.; Mother-in-law Juanita Valverde and brother-in-law Johnny Mendoza, Sr.
A memorial mass will be held at St. Phillip Neri Catholic Church on Friday, September 22, 2023, at 10:00am followed by interment at All Saints Mausoleum in Metairie Cemetery at 11:30am.
