

Mae Frances Alfortish Moldaner, age 88, passed away just after sunrise on Saturday July 23, 2022, at 7:17 AM in Metairie, LA, at the home of her daughter. She was born in New Orleans and resided in Metairie for the past 63 years. Daughter of the late Frank Joseph Alfortish and the late Laura Anna Schlosser Alfortish.
Mae is survived by her two sons, Robert Frank Moldaner (Cynthia) and Brian David Moldaner (Elizabeth), her daughter Karen Frances Moldaner Hooter (Aaron); her niece, Laureen Mae Gauthier Paillot (Lawrence); 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, one great-nephew, and her beloved 20 year old cat, Sweetie. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Edward Henry Moldaner, Jr.; a daughter, Dawn Marie Moldaner; a son, Victor James Moldaner, and her sister, Helen Anna Alfortish.
She was a devoted mother and grandmother. She loved sewing for her kids and grandkids, a skill she inherited from her mother. She was also an avid reader, and always had a book by her side. She also spent time volunteering by delivering meals to shut ins for many years. She also loved cats, and always had one as a companion to the very end. Mae was also a selfless caregiver, first for her mother, then her mother-inlaw, and finally her husband.
Mae graduated from Francis T. Nicholls High School, and worked at Schoen Life Insurance before marrying Eddie in 1955. They moved to Metairie in 1959, started a family, and a business.
Mae was a devout Catholic. The family is sure she will experience peace and joy in heaven, and hear the words “Well done, good and faithful servant”, from her Lord and Savior.
Visitation will be held at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd, New Orleans, LA 70124, on Wednesday, July 27, 2022 from 10:30 a.m. to 1 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated immediately afterwards. Interment in Lake Lawn Park Cemetery.
