Mamie Galofaro Pfefferle was born on October 2, 1924 in Tickfaw, Louisiana where she grew up on a strawberry farm. She was a firecracker of a woman who doted on her loved ones and made everyone feel like family. She showed her love through selfless acts of kindness and food- especially Italian.
She lived a beautiful, full life of 96 years. Mamie exuded strength, love, devotion, selflessness, bravery, and independence; she was truly an inspiration to all who met her. She is survived by two sisters Rosemary “Tuttie” Hughes and Anna “Annie” Esneault, an assortment of nieces and nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and the most important person in the world to her: her granddaughter - Kristen Hess - who she raised from the time Kristen was 8 years old. She was preceded in death by her adoring husband Otto Howard Pfefferle, her daughter Geraldine Hess, son-in-law Michael Hess, brother-in-law Roland Pfefferle, her parents Rosie and Joseph Galofaro, sister Sarah Falcon and brothers Joseph Galofaro Jr. and Marion “Mike” Galofaro.
Mamie passed away peacefully on Kristen’s 29th birthday - April 15, 2021 - giving her one last opportunity to wish her a happy birthday and securing that day as a special one they will share forever as Kristen continues to celebrate Mamie’s life with hers. Mamie was a beautiful soul that brightened every life she touched. She will forever be missed by many.
Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation on Friday, April 23, 2021 at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans from 10am - 12pm, with Mass beginning at 12pm, interment will follow in All Saints Mausoleum.
