She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 57 years, Dennis Hossley Groome III, her parents, Mitchell S. and Magdelena Lezina Earhart, and her son-in-law, Eduardo S. Guevara.
She is survived by her children, Dennis H. Groome IV (Lori), Michelle A. Groome (Paul Odenwald) and Mardelle A. Groome (Michael Stiegler). She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Dennis H. Groome V, Gabrielle Groome, Ian Guevara (Anna Malley Vargas), Lynne Odenwald, Lydia Odenwald Kallet (Jeremy), Lilly Odenwald, Michael Stiegler Jr., Karen Stiegler, Skyler Levron, Sydney Levron, Oscar Vargas and Everett Kallet.
Mardel was a graduate of Annunciation High School and remained involved in the Alumni Association active in raising funds to support the retired nuns from the school. She worked in banking for 34 years, working her way up from a parttime teller to Vice President at Security Homestead. She will be missed by many loving high school, work, and neighborhood friends, who were always there to provide love and support throughout her life. Mardel was a devoted friend to many and never met a stranger. She enjoyed cultivating these friendships during her travels abroad and dining in the New Orleans area.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday September 22, 2026, at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. New Orleans, LA. Visitation will be held from 12 PM – 2 PM with a memorial Mass to begin at 2 PM. Inurnment will follow at All Saints Mausoleum.
