Margaret Murphy, 'Margo', was born May 5,1929 in Northumberland, England. She peacefully passed away in her home in Baton Rouge on Sunday September 23, 2018 after a brave battle with ovarian cancer. She was 89 years old.
Margo met and married her true love Paul, an electrical engineer, in 1952. They emigrated to Toronto, Canada where their only child, Lynn, was born on their first wedding anniversary. With Paul's changing employment they lived in Peshawar, Pakistan, Los Angeles and then for 40 years in New Orleans. While living in New Orleans, Margo was active in the New Orleans Art Association where her sculpture of her pug dog won Best of Show. She loved to play bridge and was an excellent player. She belonged to Metairie Country Club, Audubon Garden Club, Wellwishers Bridge, and Daughters of the British Empire. Hurricane Katrina forced Margo and Paul to move to Baton Rouge to be closer to their daughter.
Margo loved animals. She had a kind heart and gave many stray cats that showed up on her doorstep a loving home. Her most famous stray was Tiddles the cat who survived Hurricane Katrina and was reunited with Margo while being filmed for The Animal Planet.
Everyone who met Margo was enchanted by her beauty, her ladylike manner, her English accent, and her most positive outlook on life. She was an extraordinary lady who truly LIVED and LOVED.
Margo is survived by her daughter, Dr. Lynn Murphy and son-in-law Dr. Christopher McEwen. Preceded in death by her husband Paul Benedict Murphy and only grandchild Andrew Paul McEwen. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm Monday, October 1,2018, at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home with a reception afterward. In memory of Margo it is requested that donations be made to the ovarian cancer society ovarian.org.
