

She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Frank J. Palmisano, Jr.; her daughter, Suzanna P. McKee; her parents, William F. Oalmann and Augusta P. Edwards; and her sisters, Ruth Baldock and Mary Authement.
Margaret is survived by her daughter, Margaret P. Scott (Stephen C. Scott); her son, Frank J. Palmisano, III (Crystina C. Page); her brothers, William F. Oalmann and Ralph E. Oalmann (Max Oalmann); and her grandchildren, Joseph N. Palmisano, Jordan R. Wirth, and Kevin P. McKee. She is also survived by Patrick F. Buckley, Jr., Linda T. Page, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Margaret was born in Covington, Louisiana on August 16, 1929. She graduated from Charity School of Nursing in 1949. She obtained a BS in Nursing Education at LSU Medical School and Loyola, and went on to complete a Doctorate in Public Health from Tulane Medical School. She was a Professor of Pathology, Preventive Medicine, and Public Health at LSU. In the 1960’s, she was invited to join the International Atherosclerosis Project and began her focus on coronary research. In 2012, Margaret endowed the Margaret Palmisano Alumni Award presented at graduation to a student of Charity selected by the faculty. She was an active member of the Charity Alumni Association for many years where she served as President, on the Board of Directors, and on the Advisory Committee.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service in the chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans, on Monday, October 17, 2022 at 1:00PM. A visitation will be held at the funeral home beginning at 11:00AM. The interment will follow the service in Metairie Cemetery.
