

Marie Marcelle Ferrier died on October 1, 2026 in New York City. She was born on June 7, 1939 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Marcelle was the youngest of the eight children born to Marie Augusta (“Minette”) Cecile Menard and Leon Henri Ferrier, Jr.
Marcelle graduated from the Academy of the Sacred Heart and attended Newcomb College. She worked in one of the city’s bond firms before moving to New York City.
In New York she worked in the securities business and in the legal profession. She was a member of the choir and senior women's ministry at St. Monica's Parish and beloved neighbor to all at her apartment building.
Marcelle is survived by her sisters Marie Mignon Parker (the late Thomas A. II) and Marie Claire Stahel (Harry C.) both of New Orleans. She is also survived by her special niece, Valerie Verhunce Bowden of Tampa, Florida, who devoted herself selflessly to caring for Marcelle in her last years, and numerous other loving nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and five siblings: Leon III, Rev. Francis Ferrier, S.J., Edouard, Marie “Minette” Verhunce and Marie Marguerite Smith.
Marcelle’s funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Monica Catholic Church in New York City on October 7, 2026.
A Graveside Service will be held at Metairie Cemetery in New Orleans, Louisiana in the Ferrier tomb on Saturday, November 7, 2026, at 11:00 A.M. at which family and friends are welcome.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marcelle’s memory to the Academy of the Sacred Heart, 4521 St. Charles Avenue, New Orleans, Louisiana 70115 or to the charity of one’s choice.
