It is with profound sadness we announce that Mark Joseph Sassone passed away on Wednesday, August 12th at 5:01 p.m. after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on February 2, 1960 to Nancy Cimino Sassone and the late Daniel Alexander Sassone.
Mark was born in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, but grew up in Webster, New York. Just like many New Orleanians, in 1979 he followed his older brothers, Danny and Al, to New Orleans and never went home. He built his life, a family and a successful business here. He was the proud owner of Crescent Painting, LLC and was respected by everyone who worked with him. He was a mentor and father figure to many, often without even realizing it, and was someone that others could always count on. His happiest days were spent with his family on a beach or skiing in the mountains. Mark loved a good golf game with his brothers. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, his quiet strength, his kind heart and his generous spirit.
Mark is survived by his mother, Nancy Cimino Sassone; his wife, Carmel Fitzpatrick Sassone; his daughters Leslie Limberg (Matthew) and Emily Abadie (Justin); his grandchildren Caroline Kovesdi, Jack Kovesdi, Braughn Abadie and Jay Abadie; his brothers Danny (Helen), Al (Dee) and Michael (Memory); his nieces Karli and Lindsey Sassone; his nephew Ryan Stewart; his brother-in-law Steve Stewart (Barb) and a host of extended family members, dear friends and colleagues who will forever cherish his memory.
Mark is preceded in death by his father, Daniel Sassone; his sister, Donna Sassone Stewart; and his nephew, Kyle Stewart.
His funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 26th at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Boulevard, New Orleans, Louisiana. Visitation will be from 10 am until 12 pm, followed by mass in the chapel. Burial will be private.
The family would like to give special thanks to Ochsner Medical Center, the staff of the Neuro ICU, and the inpatient hospice team for taking exceptional care of him in his final days. In honor of his love for his dogs (Max and Tito) if you are so inclined, donations may be made to the animal rescue organization of your choice.
