

Mary Ann Dodt Landry passed peacefully from this life on the evening of August 10, 2024, surrounded by her family. She goes to join her late husband of over 60 years, Alton A. Landry. She is survived by her children, Mark Christopher (Jane), Ann Marie, and Michael Dodt (Elizabeth) Landry; her grandchildren, Heather Ann (Mark) Kirby and Francis Paul, Gabrielle Marie, Ruth Marie Nairne, and Madeline Ann Landry; and her one great-granddaughter, Taylor Marie Dorris. Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents, John Casper Dodt, Jr., and Anna Wilhelm Dodt and her brothers, John Casper Dodt, III and Anthony Joseph Dodt, Sr. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, the Dodts, the Landrys, the Gagnets, the Friedrichs, and the Longmires.
Mary Ann was born in New Orleans on September 24, 1929. She graduated from St. Joseph Academy in New Orleans and received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Education from Loyola University New Orleans in 1950. On January 7, 1950, she was chosen to reign as Queen of the Krewe of Alhambra’s Mardi Gras ball.
She met and fell in love with her future husband, Al, when she attended Loyola and he attended Tulane University. They were married at St. Leo the Great Church in New Orleans on October 21, 1950, by Al’s brother, Rev. W. Michael Landry. After they were married, they lived in Brownfield, Texas, and Port Sulfur, Louisiana, before settling in Metairie. Mary Ann worked for 27 years as a librarian with the Jefferson Parish Public Library, including serving as manager of the Old Metairie and Wagner branches. She and Al were members of St. Angela Merici Catholic Church in Metairie since it was created. Mary Ann loved to travel and traveled extensively after she retired.
The family would like to thank the staff of Chateau de Notre Dame Assisted Living Center and the Poydras Home for their devotion and care of Mary Ann during her later years. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Friends of the Jefferson Public Library would be appreciated.
Relatives and friends are invited to the services on Monday, August 19, 2024 at St. Angela Merici Church, 901 Beverly Garden Dr. Metairie, LA 70002. Visitation begins at 10:30 a.m. until the mass at 12:00 p.m. The interment will follow in Metairie Cemetery, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. New Orleans, LA 70124.
