Mary Beth Cook Meyer passed away peacefully on January 14, 2026, at the age of 76. She was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. A lifelong resident of New Orleans, Mary Beth truly embodied the spirit of the city she loved and was always ready to celebrate, gather with loved ones, and enjoy life to the fullest.
Mary Beth was the youngest daughter of Edward J. Cook, Jr. and Iris Jackson Cook. She is survived by her sister, Carol Wuchter, and was preceded in death by her sister, Barbara Wheeler.
She was the devoted mother of two sons, Michael Edward Chepolis and John Cook Chepolis. Mary Beth was preceded in death by her eldest son, Michael, who is survived by his wife, Debbie, and their three children, Michael, Connor, and Alexa. She is also survived by her son, John, and his wife, Katherine, and their three children, Sophia, Etta, and Owen. Mary Beth adored her sons and lovingly embraced her daughters-in-law as her own. She was delighted to be a grandmother and treasured the time she spent with her grandchildren.
Mary Beth was the widow of Joseph “Joe” Meyer, Jr., to whom she was married for 31 years before his passing in 2021. Together, Mary Beth and Joe built a life filled with laughter, travel, and celebration. They were known for hosting lively gatherings in their home and never needed much of a reason to throw a party. Traveling together was one of their great joys, with New York City and Isla Mujeres among their favorite destinations.
A graduate of Dominican High School, Mary Beth played volleyball and continued playing into her adult years. She was also a passionate dog lover who rescued many dogs over the years, welcoming each one as a cherished member of her family.
Mary Beth delighted in long, joyful meals shared with family and friends and was fondly known for her slow-paced eating, savoring both the food and the conversation. She loved everything New Orleans, with the Saints and Mardi Gras always at the top of the list.
Mary Beth was a pleasure to be around and always ready to laugh and celebrate. She cherished living in Lakeview and was especially grateful to have her sons and their families living close by. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at SummerHouse Vista Shores for the care, kindness, and support they provided Mary Beth during her final years.
A memorial service in her honor will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Mary Beth’s memory to The American Brain Foundation.
