Mary V. Ives

Mary Elizabeth VanDenburgh Ives beloved wife, mother & grandmother passed away on Wednesday June, 7 2017 after a brief illness at 78 years of age. She was born in New Orleans on November 27, 1938 and was preceded in death by her mother Elizabeth Allen VanDenburgh; her father Archer Graham VanDenburgh of Richmond, VA and her brothers Peter Archer Graham VanDenburgh and Fred Allen VanDenburgh. She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years Charles Mitchell Ives, Jr.; her three children Charles “Chuck” Mitchell Ives, III (Susan), Christopher Winthrop Ives, MD, of Fairhope, AL, Mary Elizabeth “MeMe” VanDenburgh Ives Henry (Keith); her grandchildren Christopher Winthrop Ives, Jr., Philip Graham Ives, MaryClair Mitchell Ives, Jackson Daniel Ives all of Fairhope, AL, Marguerite Elizabeth Ives Henry, Keith Gerard “Bubba” Henry, Jr., Mary Mitchell Ives Henry; and many adoring nieces and nephews. Mary was raised and lived her entire life in New Orleans. She graduated from the Academy of Sacred Heart and attended Marymount College. She was deeply devoted to her family and was known by all for her loving and caring heart and her uniquely dry sense of humor. She enjoyed spending time, caring for, and being involved in the lives of her family and two cats, Beau & Izzy. She enjoyed reading and the many trips taken with her husband, family, and good friends over the years. A devout Catholic and committed to the Sacred Heart, she was a parishioner of St. Francis of Assisi Church. She was a member of the Orleans Club and Junior league of New Orleans. She will be deeply missed by all. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Michael Special School. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Mass at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 631 State St. in New Orleans at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, June 13, 2017. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. until service time. Inurnment to follow at the Tranquility Oaks in Metairie Cemetery, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans.
