Mary Frances Fischel Maloney passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at the age of 96. She was the beloved wife of the late Bernard “Barney” Henry Maloney for 65 years. She is survived by three of their five children: Carol Maloney Howell (late husband Lucien A. Howell, Jr.), Mary Lynn Maloney, and Mark Phillip Maloney (wife Laurie); three grandchildren: Jacqueline Frances Maloney (late husband Mike Bollman), Mark Jeffrey Maloney (wife Leah), and Joseph Douglas Maloney; four great-grandchildren: Emily Ricalde, Colton Bollman, Lucien Maloney, and Samuel Maloney; sister Martha Purdue of Georgia; extended family Rhonda and Kenneth Pfeffer; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Frances was preceded in death by two daughters: Gail Frances Maloney and Patty Maloney Dwyer; her parents Harvey C. Fischel and Mattie Julia Clay Fischel; and three sisters and four brothers.
Besides her family and friends, Frances loved Mardi Gras parades, bowling, bingo, card games, and playing the slot machines, as well as music, dogs (especially Bhulah), plants, and butterflies. Her favorite food was ice cream, and she was a good cook, known for her frequent use of the pressure cooker to prepare meals. Though not an avid football fan, she always cheered for the Saints with her family.
Frances was a native of Atlanta, Georgia, and one of nine children. She relocated to New Orleans after her marriage, where she was a parishioner of Resurrection of Our Lord Catholic Church, and moved to Metairie after Hurricane Katrina, and became a parishioner of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church.
Special thanks to Notre Dame Hospice, Fidelis Janice House, and Peristyle Lakeview House for their professional care and kindness.
