Mary Elise deRoode Burt Merriam passed away on Thursday, May 13, 2014, age 99. Beloved wife of the late Dr. Wallace Merriam and Dr. Lawrence W. Burt. Daughter of the late Roger deRoode and Mary Elise Morphy. Mother of Bonnie J. Burt, PhD and Lawrence William "Bill" Burt Grandmother of Michael Hiram Burt, Kristen Burt Martin, Heather Burt Dauzat, Lawrence William Burt, III and Barbara Elise Burt. Great grandmother of Nathaniel Hiram Burt, Evan Maine, Sam Dauzat and Avery Elise Dauzat. Friend of the late Edward M. Rowley. Mary Elise graduated from Ursuline Academy and was the oldest living graduate of Touro School of Nursing. She was an honored volunteer at the New Orleans Museum of Art. She loved to travel and participated in numerous social events. Her favorite saying was "Every day above ground is a good day.” Her love and enjoyment of life will be remembered by all. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at LAKE LAWN METAIRIE FUNERAL HOME, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. (in Metairie Cemetery) on Monday, May 19, 2014 at 12:00 pm.
