Mary D. Schiro

Mary Di Martino Schiro, 98, passed away on Thursday, June 9, 2016. She is survived by her daughters, Patricia Becker (Ronald), Joann Callia (late John Callia) and Barbara Schiro Salvaggio (Chip); her grandchildren, Kevin Becker (Mary), Chris Callia (Trudy), Stacey Giardina (Vincent) and Tara Leveque (Mark); great-grandchildren, Molly, Courtney and Jack Becker, Amanda, Emily, Michael and the late Nicholas Callia, Gabrielle, John and Jake Leveque and Jake, Alex and Brady Giardina. She is preceded in death by her husband, Nicholas A. Schiro, her parents, Mariano Di Martino and Josephine Cultrara Di Martino; and her three sisters, Mildred Glover, Esther Miceli and Antoinette Gray. Mary was born on October 18, 1917 in Ansonia, Connecticut. She was a retired grocer and a member of the New Orleans People Program. She will be deeply missed by all her family and friends. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the special people of Canon Hospice and all caregivers, especially Shelly and Antoinette. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital and Children’s Hospital New Orleans. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home on Saturday, June 18, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. A visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. until service time. Interment will follow in Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum.
