Mary Puma Stutts, age 91, leaves behind a legacy woven from courage, generosity, and love - a life that began in Contessa Entellina, Italy, found a cherished home in New Orleans, and carried her across the world alongside her family. Wherever life took her, Mary brought warmth, strength, and an open heart, leaving an enduring mark on everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Mary immigrated to New Orleans with her parents, beginning a life that would take her far beyond the city she came to call home, yet always bring her back to the culture, traditions, and spirit she loved.
Mary married George Stutts, Sr., an officer in the United States Air Force. During their marriage, military life took the family around the world. Through every move and adventure, Mary devoted herself to raising her two sons, Rick and Monty, while embracing the people, places, and experiences that came with a life of travel.
She had a lifelong appreciation for the arts and theater, loved sports, and had a keen interest in investing in real estate. But few things captured her heart quite like New Orleans. She loved Mardi Gras, the city's celebrations and traditions, and everything that made New Orleans unique.
Above all, Mary will be remembered for her generous spirit. Her home was a place where family and friends were always welcome, especially during the holidays. Her hospitality extended well beyond those she knew. She had a special compassion for people who were struggling or less fortunate and believed in treating others with dignity, kindness, and grace. There was always room for one more at Mary's table.
Her greatest legacy is her family. She was the proud mother of Rick and Monty, grandmother to Cameron, Kayla, and Quinn, and great-grandmother to Cole and Cade. The traditions she created, the experiences she shared, and the compassion she showed others will live on through the generations that follow her.
Mary lived a remarkable 91 years - a life that began in Italy, flourished in New Orleans, stretched around the world, and was ultimately defined by family, generosity, resilience, and an enduring love for the city she called home.
She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all whose lives she touched.
