Mary Rose Constantino Tarsney

Mary was born and raised in Independence, Louisiana. As a young woman, she earned a bachelor’s degree from Southeastern Louisiana University and a master’s degree in education from Loyola University in New Orleans. She then moved to New Orleans to begin her teaching career that spanned more than two decades.

Mary’s teaching career included the following institutions: Westwego Junior High, Jefferson Junior High, East Jefferson High School, Riverdale High School, Archbishop Chapelle High School, RETS Technical School, Louisiana Vocational Technical School, and Louisiana State Program for Adults. Her passion was teaching business education.

During those two decades of teaching, Mary met and married the late Donald Joseph Tarsney in 1963. Don and Mary’s marriage of 51 years was blessed with a daughter Natalie Ann Tarsney.

Mary’s favorite career move began in 1994 when she became a loving, nurturing, and attentive grandmother.

Survivors include daughter Natalie and son-in-law Thomas Leach of Milwaukee, WI. Grandchildren include Andrew Tarsney Leach, Timothy O’Donnell Leach and wife Jane Leach, and Daniel Constantino Leach. Great-grandchildren include Marley and Malcolm Leach.

Mary and Don were founding parishioners of St. Benilde Church in Metairie, Louisiana.

A Mass will be celebrated at noon on Monday, June 29 at St. Benilde Catholic Church, 1901 Division St., Metairie. Visitation will start at 10 a.m.

Burial will be private.
