Mary Ellen Wynne

Mary Ellen Wynne, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully on September 13, 2026, surrounded by her family. She will be remembered for her beautiful smile, big heart, and the unconditional love she had for her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, L.H. and Dorothy Herberger, and her sisters, Marjorie Herberger and Dorothy Herberger. She is survived by her loving husband, Arthur Dayries Wynne Jr.; her beloved children, Arthur Wynne III, Ellen Phelan (Daniel), Brett Wynne (Ashley), and Brian Wynne (Lori); and her six grandsons, Chandler Wynne, Christopher Phelan, Patrick Phelan, Cullen Wynne, Parker Wynne, and Sawyer Wynne. She is also survived by her younger sister, Cheryl Forbes, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Mary Ellen was born May 23, 1945, in New Orleans, Louisiana, and later moved to Columbia, Mississippi. She attended St. Joseph’s Academy in Bay St. Louis and later returned to New Orleans, where she modeled locally.

Mary Ellen found joy in the simple and beautiful things in life. She was deeply giving and never sought praise for her kindness. She loved fresh flowers and especially enjoyed caring for orchids. She also loved decorating her home in preparation to celebrate the holidays with her family. She especially cherished time spent at her home in Pass Christian, where she loved sitting on the porch and celebrating Easter with her family.

She also enjoyed traveling and spending time on the water. She loved accompanying her husband on sailing trips to the U.S. Virgin Islands and spending summers in Destin, Florida, on their sailboat. Mary Ellen was equally devoted to her family and community and took great joy in volunteering at her children’s schools and giving her time to the Southern Yacht Club.

Her family was the greatest joy of her life, and she will be missed dearly by all who loved her. A private family burial will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery in Columbia, Mississippi. In honor of Mary Ellen, please consider donations to the Manning Family Children’s Hospital.
