Mee Kuan Gee Hom

On Thursday, April 7, 2022, Mee Kuan Hom passed away at home with her son and daughters by her side. She is now reunited with her husband, Tung Chu Hom, in the eternal home of God in heaven. She was born on November 26, 1926 in Toisan, China to parents, Zhu and Zhang Ru. She worked as a teacher before marrying and moving to the United States to begin a new life with her husband’s family. She is survived by her five children and their spouses - Rose and John Howe, Mary Ann and Bob Seymour, Susan Hom, Irene and Darryl Toy, Richard Henry and Paula Hom. Her grandchildren and their spouses include Julia (James), Nathan (Lori), Brandon, Jennifer, Eric, Michael, and step-grandchildren and their spouses Robert (Cathy) and Brian (Zhi). Her youngest survivors include four great-grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren. She is survived by two sisters and many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

She worked to support her family as a co-owner from 1947 to the 1970s of Hom’s Laundry in New Orleans and then moving to Metairie as a partner in Takee Out Restaurant until her retirement in 1990. She was a devout Christian, a charter and faithful member of the Chinese Presbyterian Church and served as president of the women’s church group for many years. She was an avid New Orleans Saints and LSU Tigers football fan.

Mee Kuan will always be remembered for her love of family and the many happy gatherings the family enjoyed together as well as the service and love she offered to the community of people wherever she was. Many who remember her describe her as being “so sweet and so nice”.

Special thank you to all her physicians, nurses and healthcare workers who provided help and support to her over the years. We are comforted in knowing that she is now at peace with God and the loved ones with whom she is now reunited.

Services will be held on April 23rd at Lake Lawn Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. New Orleans, LA. Visitation is from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at which time a service will be held in the Chapel immediately following. Interment will be in Cypress Grove Cemetery.
