Melanie Frey Meyer Evans

Melanie Frey Meyer Evans passed away on Thursday, July 7, 2016, at the age of 94. Daughter of the late Severin L. Frey and Valerie Waltzer Frey. Wife of the late Oliver J. Meyer, Sr. and Frank Evans. Mother of Oliver J. Meyer, Jr. (Kathy), Melanie Meyer, Peggy Meyer Persac (Remy Williams), Ann Meyer Leche (Bill), Barry Meyer (Marilyn), and the late Madeleine Meyer Blanchard. Step-children Rome Evans (Barbara), Richard Evans, and Mickey Evans. Sister of Imelda Bernard, Valerie Wiegand, and the late Adele Lagarde and Lawrence Frey. Grandmother of eighteen. Great-grandmother of thirty-five. Great-great-grandmother of four. Melanie was very active in the community, especially the Brownies and Girl Scouts. She received the Joan of Arc Medal for her years of service with the Girl Scouts. In the 1970’s she was the lay chairman in the Catholic Committee on scouting. Melanie enjoyed cooking and creating ceramics. She will be fondly remembered as the matriarch of the family. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass in the Chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., on Monday, July 11, 2016 at 10:00am.
