Melba D. McSwain

She was preceded in death by her parents Solomon Weinberger, Sr. and Leopoldina Peña Weinberger; and siblings Solomon Weinberger, Jr. (Maria Luisa), Elba Weinberger, Gloria Weinberger Radillo, and Sonia Weinberger Smith (David). She was married to the late Albert McSwain in 1954 and their children include Michael McSwain (Annabelle), Dianne McSwain Schmidt (Steven), and late son Daniel McSwain (Sylvia). Grandchildren include Jonathan McSwain, Emily Schmidt, Kyle Schmidt (Amy), Collin Schmidt (Justina), Conrad Schmidt, Denisse Lopez, Mia Camille McSwain, and Rebecca McSwain. Great grandchildren include Stella Marty, Sadie Schmidt, Patrick Martyn, Waylon Schmidt, and Finn Schmidt. Melba was a favorite aunt to Gertrude Weinberger Biondo, Cynthia Weinberger, Sandy Lazare, Linda Biedermann, Antonio Radillo, Frances Lopilato, Maria Elba Smith, Delores Albarado, and Debbie Smith, and favored among a plethora of great nieces and nephews.

Melba was a resident of Kenner for many years, though most recently resided in Metairie. She was an educator for over 40 years, most recently at A. C. Alexander Elementary. She was educated at Newcomb University and received her master’s degree from Tulane University. She was a member of the Foreign Born Wives Association for many years.
