Melvern Ferrara

Melvern Weber Ferrara passed away peacefully on November 21, 2023 at 99 years of age. She was born and raised in the French Quarter of New Orleans and attended St. Mary’s Italian School at 1100 Chartres St as well as John McDonogh High School on Esplanade Ave. She was a loving wife, a mother and a friend to many; she possessed a deep faith in God, a love of life and cherished her family above all else. She was a parishioner of the old St. Raphael church and Saint Pious X and a lifelong resident of New Orleans, LA.

She was the daughter of Robert and Hilda Weber, beloved wife of the late John Frank Ferrara Sr., mother of Joseph Ferrara, Wayne Ferrara, Evelyn Ferrara and predeceased by her sons, John Frank Ferrara Jr and Philip Salvador Ferrara. She was a sister of Melva Barbier, Hilda Ferrara and Ethel Weber, sister-in-law of Joseph Kable, the late Pearl Ferrara and the late John Mangiaracina, Philip Ferrara and Jeanette Maggio Ferrara. Grandmother of John Santino Ferrara, Jeffrey J. Ferrara, Sicily Anne Lagarde, Paul John Lagarde V and Catherine Ann Ferrara. Aunt of Joseph J. Ferrara, Frances Perniciaro, Rita Ferrara, John Mangiaracina Jr., Jo-Ann Kable and Karen Ann Kable.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral mass and visitation at Lake Lawn Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd, Metairie Cemetery on December 7th, 2023. Visitation will be from 9:00am - 11:00am with a religious service at 11:00am and interment to follow at the family tomb. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Children’s Hospital of New Orleans or your favorite charity.
