He is preceded in death by his parents, Melvin “Windy” Brunies Sr. and Louise Chavanel Brunies. He is survived by his daughter, Ashley Brunies, former spouse, Catherine B. Meariman, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Mel graduated from East Jefferson High School in 1977 and attended Delgado Community College. He was a welder by trade, and worked in various industries. He and his dad, Windy, were frequent patrons of Sweet Things Donuts and Grill, where they solved world problems, enjoyed coffee, and made many friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Friday, August 22nd at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. New Orleans, LA. Visitation will be held from 12 PM – 2 PM with a service to begin at 2 PM.
