Melvin B. Willig, 79, a native of New Orleans and resident of Gretna, passed away on Wednesday, June 9, 2021. Beloved husband of Rose S. Willig and the late Patricia S. Willig. Father of Chris Willig (Danielle). Stepfather of Lisa LaFrance (David), Teresa Sanchez, and Tina Gorumba (Roger). Grandfather “Monkey” of Hallie and Maci Miller. Step grandfather of Maleah Marcomb (Brandon), Magan O’Hara (Kevin), and Brandon Troulliet (Courtney). Step great grandfather “Pops” of Claire Marcomb, Reese O’Hara, and Maxen Troulliet. Son of the late John Bennett, Jr. and Ethel Amelia Maltry Willig. Brother of Donald and Elaine Willig, and the late Mervin Willig, Ethel Cannata, and Edna DiSalvo. Brother-in-law of Melvin Theriot and Russell DiSalvo, Sr. Also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and beloved friends and family.
Melvin retired as a truck driver and was in the Teamsters Union #270. He enjoyed playing bingo at Azalea, Gretna Place, and Boutte Bingo Halls. He will be missed by his bingo friends. We want to thank the staff at West Jefferson Cancer Center. The family also extends their gratitude to Passages Hospice for their care and compassion during this most difficult time.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans, on Monday, June 14, 2021 from 5:00PM until 8:00PM. The visitation will continue on Tuesday morning beginning at 9:00AM. The funeral service will be held in the chapel of the funeral home at 10:00AM. Interment will follow in Metairie Cemetery at All Saints Mausoleum.
