

Merrill T. Landwehr passed on Monday, September 14, 2026, at home surrounded by family and loved ones. Merrill was the loving husband of Catherine Franz Landwehr, to whom he was married for over 66 years. Merrill is survived by his wife, Catherine and his children Darryl Landwehr (Stacy), Dr. Craig Landwehr (Shaun), Cathleen Landwer-Zelenka (Stephen), and Todd Landwehr (Cherie). He is also survived by his grandchildren, Dr. Bradley Landwehr (Dr. Nicole), Caitlin Aucoin (Kyle), Brett Landwehr (Ariel), Kale Ordoyne, Grant Landwehr, Abigail Walker (Will), Christopher Zelenka, Grayson Landwehr and Annabelle Landwehr, and great grandchildren Everett, Cecilia and Theodore Aucoin, Olivia and Theo Landwehr and Arlo Walker, and his sister Star L. Campeire (Don). He was proceeded in his death by his parents, sister Dawn L. Rodenberg and great granddaughter Madeline Catherine Landwehr.
Merrill was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, on September 23, 1937, the son of George W. and Geraldine O. Landwehr. He graduated from Jesuit High Scholl, Loyola College of Business Administration and Loyola University School of Law in 1961. Merrill was employed as a trail attorney by the Tax Division of the United States Justice Department in Washington, D.C. He then served in the Judge Advocate General’s Corps of the United States Army for a special period of two years attaining the rank of Major. Upon his return to civilian life, he was employed by and became partner in the law firm of Jones, Walker, Waechter, Portevent, Carriere and Denegre. Merrill then became a partner in the firm of Foley, Judell, Beck, Bewley and Landwehr. Since 1980, he has managed his own law firm in New Orleans which is known as Landwehr Law Firm. He was an adjunct professor at law at Tulane University Law School, teaching Bankruptcy Law from 1977 through 1981. Merrill was a member of the Louisiana State, New Orleans, and Jefferson Parish Bar Associations.
Merrill is a knight of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem of which organization’s he held the Office of Secretary for nine-year term. He has been a Man of Manresa for more than 35 years, a past captain of the annual married couples retreats at the Christian Life Center, St Joseph’s Abbey, St Benedict, LA. Merrill is past President of the Loyola University of Law School Alumni Association, a past president of the Delta Theta Phi Law Fraternity Alumni Association, and a past member of Metairie Country Club for more than 40 years.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral services at St. Clement of Rome Catholic Church at 4317 Richland Avenue Metairie, LA on September 23, 2026. Visitation will begin at 10:30 AM with Catholic Mass to follow at 11:30 AM. Graveside will follow in Metairie Cemetery.
