Mike was a loving husband, a devoted second father to Brandon Lobell, a proud and adoring grandfather, a dedicated son and son-in-law, and a loyal friend to many. He lived a life defined by faith, integrity, generosity, and unwavering dedication to his family, his friends, and his profession.
Born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, Mike spent his youth immersed in baseball and football, hunting, and cattle ranching with his parents and grandfather in D’Hanis, Texas. His childhood summers were often spent with his grandparents, where he shadowed his grandfather at the family hardware store and on the ranch—experiences that helped shape his strong work ethic and lifelong love of ranching.
A proud graduate of Central Catholic High School in San Antonio, Mike remained deeply devoted to the school throughout his life. He credited Marianist mentors such as Brother Harry Cornell and Brother Ed Shiermeier for their lasting guidance and influence. As a multi-sport letterman and team captain, Mike refined his leadership skills under dedicated coaches, forging lifelong friendships with teammates that endured throughout the years. His commitment to Central Catholic never wavered: he supported their mission and programs by funding numerous scholarships, and he served on its Board of Directors, ultimately becoming Chairman of the Board and Chair of the Finance Committee.
The Marianist values instilled during Mike’s formative years—humility, service to others, and teamwork—left an indelible mark on his personal and professional life. In recognition of his exemplary leadership and compassionate service, Mike was inducted into the Central Catholic High School Hall of Fame.
Mike later attended Tulane University, where he earned both his Bachelor of Arts and Master of Business Administration degrees. A gifted athlete, he was a multi-year letterman and football scholarship recipient and also played baseball for one season. His contributions to the 1973 team led to its induction into the Tulane University Hall of Fame, and Mike remained a steadfast supporter of Tulane’s football and baseball programs throughout his life.
Following graduation, Mike began a distinguished 35-year career with Deloitte LLP, serving as a Senior Partner. He primarily worked with multinational SEC-reporting companies in the oil and gas and construction industries. Known for his professionalism, leadership, and sound judgment, Mike earned the deep respect of colleagues and clients alike and formed many lasting friendships throughout his career. After retiring from Deloitte, he continued to lend his expertise as Audit Committee Chair on the Boards of Directors for Gulf Island Fabrication, Inc. and Ultra Petroleum Corp.
One of Mike’s greatest joys was time spent at his ranch in his beloved hometown of D’Hanis, Texas. Together with Lori, he built their home on the ranch, continuing a proud multigenerational family ranching tradition. The ranch became a treasured gathering place for family, lifelong friends, Central Catholic brothers, and Deloitte colleagues. Though a CPA by profession, Mike was a cowboy at heart. His true happiness was found walking among his cattle, surrounded by Lori, his close friends—fondly known as “the Keeffe Ranch Brothers”—and the land he loved.
Mike is survived by his beloved wife, Lori Keeffe; his stepson and daughter-in-law, Brandon, and Sarah Lobell; his grandchildren, Zoë, Presley, and Liv Lobell; his sisters and brother-in-law, Kathleen Kliewer and Linda and Larry Trojan; along with nieces, nephews, and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Edmund Keeffe, and his mother, Elizabeth “Betty” Jean Keeffe.
