Michael Charles Murphy, age 73, passed away on October 17, 2026. Born on August 13, 1953, in New Orleans, Louisiana, Michael was a proud New Orleanian who carried his love for his hometown throughout his life.
Michael graduated from Rummel High School and the University of New Orleans before embarking on a long and successful career in medical device sales, where he served as a regional sales manager. He built a career through dedication and relationships, but his life was about so much more than his work.
One of Michael’s greatest joys was being part of the Mardi Gras marching groups he loved so dearly. Through his involvement with the Almost Mardi Gras Club and St. Mary Magdalen, he shared in the traditions, friendships, fellowship, and unique spirit that make New Orleans so special. Mardi Gras was more than a celebration to Michael; it was a connection to his community and the people who became part of his life. The memories and friendships made along the way will always hold a special place in the hearts of those who marched beside him.
Above all, Michael cherished his family. He was the beloved husband of Rose Marie Murphy, a loving father to Shawn Murphy, and a proud grandfather to Zachary, Kayla, and Kensley. He was also a loving stepfather to Carl and Rose Kuhnau and a cherished step-grandfather to Gabrielle, Nova Rose, and Mason. His family was an important part of his life, and his love will continue to live on through the generations who carry his memory forward.
Michael was the son of the late Adrian and Shirley Murphy and the brother of Kathy Mailhes.
Michael leaves behind a lifetime of memories, friendships, laughter, and love. He will be deeply missed by his family, his Mardi Gras family, and all those whose lives he touched. Though his place among the marching groups may be empty, the memories of the good times shared, the traditions celebrated, and the friendships formed will never be forgotten.
New Orleans was Michael’s home, Mardi Gras was one of his great joys, and the people he loved were his lasting legacy.
May he rest in peace, surrounded by the love he gave so freely and the memories that will forever keep him close to our hearts.
