Michael Joseph Scallan was peacefully called home to the Lord on August 15, 2025, at the age of 68. Devoted husband of 37 years, Michael is survived by his wife Sherri Bianchini Scallan, daughters Ashley Lane (Ryan) and Alyssa Schouest (Jonathan), grandchildren Jude, Luke, Madeline, James, and Joseph, and mother Evelyn Champagne Scallan. Michael is also survived by siblings Stephen Scallan Jr. (Sandra), Sheryl Nicolay (Steve), and Terry Bourlet (Brett), along with many beloved nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. He is preceded in death by his father Stephen Scallan Sr. and granddaughter Morgan Ann Lane.
A native of Reserve and long-time resident of LaPlace, Mike was valedictorian at Riverside Academy before graduating from LSU in Mechanical Engineering, leading to a successful 40 year career at Monsanto. Mike was a devoted Catholic and dedicated parishioner of St. Joan of Arc Parish, where he served on the school board and pastoral council for many years.
Mike will be remembered for being a man of faith, generosity, loyalty, and most of all – selflessness. His unwavering integrity and kindness made him a role model for everyone fortunate enough to know him. He was the best husband, father, son, brother, and pawpaw that anyone could ask for. Mike’s heart overflowed with joy when he became a Pawpaw, a role that brought him unparalleled happiness and defined his legacy of love. Mike was a die-hard fan of the LSU Tigers. He loved tending to his garden, making trips to the casino with Sherri and his girls, and being at the beach. Mike’s love for his family and faith in God never wavered during his courageous battle with brain cancer. He will be truly missed by all that knew and loved him.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Sr. Dulce Maria and the staff at Cypress Springs Mercedarian Prayer Center, as well as the nurses and staff at Foundations Hospice for their care and support. They would also like to extend their sincerest gratitude to all of those who have offered their thoughts and prayers for Mike over the last few years.
