

Dr. Michael Christopher Townsend passed away peacefully at his home in New Orleans, Louisiana on January 8, 2025. Born in London on February 21, 1957, Dr. Townsend led a distinguished career in medicine, marked by dedication and quality of care.
He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio, and went on to receive his Doctor of Medicine (MD) from The Ohio State University. He completed his surgical residency at Case Western Reserve University before settling in New Orleans, where he devoted nearly two decades as a general surgeon at Ochsner Medical Center. He additionally served as the Medical Director of the Surgical Intensive Care Unit.
Renowned for his unwavering commitment to patient care and his contributions to the medical community, Dr. Townsend was admired for his expertise and compassion. His legacy is one of skill, kindness, and an enduring dedication to the well-being of others.
Outside of his career, Michael was the life of the party; he was extremely bright and friendly, with a sarcastic sense of humor. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, and the Cleveland Browns. He could often be found with a vodka tonic, and above all else loved spending time with his family and friends.
He is lovingly remembered by his seven children: Jacqueline Townsend, Amanda Townsend, Hayley (Marcus) Perry, Alex Pelias, Max Townsend, Electra Pelias, and Chloe Townsend.
He is survived by his two sisters: Kimberly Flett and Tracy Henze. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sheila and Michael.
A service will be held Sunday, January 12, 2025 at 2:00 pm at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home & Cemeteries: 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd, New Orleans, LA 70124.
