He was 91 years old, born on February 26, 1927 to the late Judge and Mrs. Michel Provosty (nee Ruth Pattison).
He is survived by his three children: Deirdre Jasmin (Jim), of Atlanta, GA; Michel, Jr. (Cathy) of Gulf Breeze, FL; and Jacqueline Guillot (Jacques) of Mandeville; sister, Mrs. Beauregard B. Avegno of New Orleans; grandchildren: Camille, Corinne, Jacques Jr., Shea, and Jean Guillot; Michel III and Eleanor Provosty; and Matthew and William Jasmin. He was predeceased by his sisters: Mrs. Charles D. Taylor of Pass Christian, MS and Mrs. William M. Hickey of Midland, TX.
He was a graduate of Isodore Newman High School, attended Amherst College for a wartime accelerated program summer semester, and was a graduate of Tulane University School of Arts and Sciences. He attended the Tulane School of Law and received his LLB in 1950. He served on active duty in the U.S. Navy at the end of World War II as a Petty Officer 3rd class, and during the Korean War as a 1st Lieutenant in the inactive U.S. Air Force Judge Advocate General Corps. He was a partner in the law firms of Provosty & Provosty; McLaughlin, Barranger, Provosty & Provosty; and McLoughlin, Barranger, Provosty and Melancon. He was a member of the Louisiana Bar Association, New Orleans Bar Association and American Bar Association. He was a member of the Beta Theta Pi social Fraternity at Tulane and of the Stratford Club, Boston Club, Southern Yacht Club, and several carnival organizations.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial mass on Monday, January 28, 2019 at 12:00 p.m. in the chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Graveside services will be private.
