Michelle Li-Shei Wang

Born in Taipei, Taiwan, Michelle came to the United States with her husband Jason in 1980 and built a life centered on her family and her craft. For over 20 years, she ran Michelle's Alterations entirely on her own terms. Her passion showed in the care she gave her clients and the quality of her work. Michelle's clients returned to her for decades, not only for her skill but for the woman behind it. She was sharp, observant, and devoted to doing things the right way. She kept mostly to herself, but those who knew her understood that her reserve ran alongside a quick mind and a wonderfully quirky spirit. Michelle was known for saying exactly what she thought, and while her honesty sometimes caught people off guard, it was always genuine and many remember her fondly for it.

Outside of her work, Michelle found joy in her garden and in the company of her cherished pets, her dog Ramen and her two cats Celica and Lily. She was a kind and generous friend who never hesitated to help someone in need, and a loving, devoted mother whose greatest joy was her son, Damon.

Michelle was preceded in death by her husband, Jason Wang, in 2015. She is survived by her only son, Damon Wang; and her two sisters in Taiwan.

True to her nature, Michelle asked that little be done in her memory. Knowing how many lives she touched, Damon has chosen to open a visitation so that those who knew her may gather, remember her, and say goodbye. The visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 22, from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, LA 70124. A private service will be held at a later date.
