

Michael A. Trapani, Jr (“Mike” “Meat”) was born on January 23, 1931 and died on July 25, 2023. He was preceded in death by his father, Michael A. Trapani, Sr.; his mother, Bertha George Trapani; an older brother, Frank Trapani; and a younger sister, Bertha Trapani Booty.
He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Patricia Guerchoux Trapani; two sons, Michael Trapani III (Ann) and Robert Trapani, Sr. (Kimberly); a daughter, Patricia Trapani Welker (Philip-deceased); and a brother, Paul Trapani (Pat-deceased); and brother-in-law, Durel Legendre, Sr. (Annie-deceased); and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
Mike was a 1950 graduate of Redemptorist High School in New Orleans where he was a four-year letterman in three sports. He attended Tulane University for a short time before moving on to play professional baseball with the St. Louis Cardinals. Mike eventually finished his working life employed by the New Orleans Clerks and Checkers Union #1497 and a member of the New Orleans Clerks and Checkers Credit Union.
“Meat” excelled in all sports: bowling a 300 game in a Knights of Columbus league game; elected into the Italian American Hall-of-Fame; elected into the New Orleans Commercial Athletic Association Hall-of-Fame; The New Orleans Diamond Club Hall-of-Fame; Member of Ponchatoula Athletics semi-pro baseball national champions in 1963. “Meat” was usually a quiet man unless he had a beer in his hand or was talking to an umpire.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass held at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. New Orleans on Monday, July 31, 2023 at 12PM. A visitation will begin at 10AM until mass time. Interment will follow mass at All Saints Mausoleum.
