Mona was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Carl M. Roussel, Sr.; her mother, Amy Orgeron De La Rue; and her five sisters, Patricia Behan, Valerie Kuhn, Sherry Graf, Maxine Fruge, and Diane Gillies.
She is survived by her sons, Carl Roussel, Jr. (JoAnn) and Charles Roussel (Jeaneen), and former daughter-in-law, Gina Roussel.
Mona was the proud and loving grandmother of Christopher Roussel (Mandie), Jared Roussel (Emily), Casey Roussel (Jose), Colin Roussel (Khylee), Cameron Roussel (Shelbi), Francesca Duplessis (Tyler), Angela Underwood (Alex), Ashlynn Flynn (Michael), and Austin Willis (Danielle).
One of Mona’s greatest joys was watching her family grow. She was blessed with fifteen great-grandchildren: Gideon Roussel, Malachi Roussel, Phoebe Roussel, Nehemiah Roussel, Max Roussel, Summer Roussel, Elijah Duplessis, Aurora Delgado, Noah Duplessis, Brooklynn Roussel, Zane Gonzales, Giovanni Gonzales, Amelia Underwood, August Underwood, and Avery Underwood.
Mona retired from the Jefferson Parish Public School System after 15 years of service, during which she worked as a cafeteria manager at several schools. Through her work, she became a familiar and caring presence to generations of students and coworkers.
Mona lived a full and active life and especially enjoyed the friendships she made along the way. Bowling and golf were two of her favorite pastimes, and for more than 40 years she participated in several bowling leagues and ladies’ golf groups. She was also a member of the AARP Metairie Chapter for many years.
Above all, Mona loved spending time with her family. She also loved to cook and enjoyed preparing meals for the people she loved. She enjoyed trips to the casino, working on jigsaw puzzles, playing cards, and cross-stitching. Whether sharing a meal, enjoying one of her favorite activities, or simply being surrounded by those she loved, Mona treasured the people in her life and the memories they created together.
Her 91 years brought a lifetime of experiences, friendships, and family memories. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, and all those fortunate enough to have known her.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Nicholas Hahn and the staff at JenCare Metairie; the caring staff of The Blake at Colonial Club Assisted Living; and the physical therapists and staff at OrthoPTic Rehab for the kindness, compassion, and care they provided to Mona.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, from 10:30 a.m. until 12:00 noon at St. Matthew the Apostle Catholic Church, 10021 Jefferson Highway, River Ridge, Louisiana 70123. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 noon.
Burial will follow at Lake Lawn Park Cemetery, 5454 Pontchartrain Boulevard, New Orleans, Louisiana 70124.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider having a Catholic Mass offered in Mona’s memory or making a memorial donation to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
