

Muriel Zinser Carriere, 97, a long-time resident of Metairie, passed away on December 20, 2020. She was born on June 21, 1923 in New Orleans, to Emile Joseph Zinser, Sr. and Bernadette Archer. She married Vernon Carriere on May 16, 1945 and was married for 53 years until his death in August 1998.
Muriel and Vernon raised their family in Uptown New Orleans, sharing a shotgun double on Walmsley Avenue with her sister Lorraine and her family. They later moved to the suburbs of Metairie. Muriel was an active parishioner of St. Angela Merici Church, enjoying being on the Altar Society and the St. Angela Ladies Auxiliary. She was awarded the Medal of the Order of St. Louis for her service.
Muriel leaves behind a legacy of six children, 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. She is survived by her children, Jean Douglass Leach (Mike), June Ferrara (Dennis), Lucille Hanafy (Jerry), Vernon Carriere (Andre), Glenn Carriere (Sharen) and Jane Fortier (Rick). She is also survived by her grandchildren Frank Douglass (Stephanie), Jeanine Hopkins (Robert), Jill Douglass- Holly (Zack), Mark Ferrara (Amy), David Ferrara, Erin Ferrara (Tai), Jamie Hanafy (Nikki), Carrie Hanafy, Vernon Carriere (Kristine), Paul Carriere (Kasey), Stephen Carriere (Brittney), Adrienne Stewart (Jimmie), Gregory Fortier and Justin Fortier and 19 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by siblings, Yvonne Adams, Lorraine Hobden, Rosemary Holmberg, Emile Zinser, Jr., Audrey Tassin and Paul Zinser.
