OBITUARY

Muriel Theard Forshag

August 20, 1925November 15, 2021

Muriel Elizabeth Theard Forshag, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away on November 15, 2021, at the age of 96.

Muriel was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, T. Dale Forshag, and her daughter Lisa Forshag Comarda (Dr. Neal Comarda). She is survived by four sons, Craig Forshag, Kurt Forshag (Lisa Crosby Forshag), Dr. Mark Forshag (Dr. Ann Selser Forshag) and Brett Forshag (Mary Gegg Forshag).

Muriel, affectionately referred to as ‘PeMaw’ is also survived by 13 grandchildren, Jennifer Forshag Baumann (Chris), Elizabeth Forshag Weisman (Josh), Kevin Cade Forshag (Haley), Linnette Forshag Nolan (Bradley), Casey Forshag (Sally), Craig Forshag (Katie), Jerad Comarda (Lauren), Kristen Comarda Bonfiglio (Josh), Katie Dale Forshag Morton (Frank), Margaret Forshag, Trent Forshag, Morgan Forshag and Brooke Forshag. Additionally, PeMaw is survived by 16 great grandchildren (and counting) all of whom she loved very much. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews whom she cared for greatly. She was particularly close to her Godchild, Kathleen Randolph of Baton Rouge.

Muriel was preceded in death by her parents, Maxime J. and Elizabeth Braun Theard and her siblings, Maxime G. Theard, Alton J. Theard and Ruth Theard Wolfe.

Muriel grew up in Gentilly’s St. Leo the Great Parish and graduated from St. Joseph Academy. While attending St. Joseph’s, Muriel was a member of the tennis team and was Student Body President her Senior Year. She graduated in 1942 as Class Salutatorian and received the school’s American Legion Award for her leadership skills.

After graduating from Loyola, Muriel taught at the Academy of Sacred Heart on St. Charles Ave. and Sacred Heart High School on Canal Street. Although she loved teaching, she retired from her teaching career to raise her and Dale’s 5 children.

Muriel and Dale lived for many years in East Lakeshore and were faithful parishioners of St. Pius X. After losing their home in Hurricane Katrina, they moved to DeLimon Place in Metairie where they became parishioners of St. Francis Xavier Church. Wherever they lived, their home was always the ‘home base’ for family and friends because of the abundance of love and ‘gourmet’ food always available.

Muriel was a wonderfully sweet, empathetic person who people warmed up to immediately. She never met a stranger. Our family often joked that when Muriel would sit on a park bench, the bench would tell Muriel its life’s story within ten minutes. She was just that kind of a naturally approachable person. She made friends quickly and cherished her long friendships in the numerous card, tennis and social groups of which she belonged.

The family wishes to sincerely thank Adella Ramos for her many years of devoted love and care. We also give special thanks to Wilma Sanders, Robin Thomas and Joy Keelan as well as the Nurses and Staff of Vista Shores Assisted Living and Canon Hospice for the patient and professional care given Muriel during her final months.
