Myrtis Laurent Broussard, age 89, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, May 6, 2018. Born in New Orleans on June 2, 1928 to the late James Odell Laurent and Anna Falcon Gaudet, she is also preceded in death by her husband, Robert I. Broussard; her daughter, Lisa Broussard; son, Robert I. Broussard, Jr. and granddaughter, Lindsay Broussard.
She is survived by her daughters, Robin Broussard and Kerry Broussard Westmoreland; her grandchildren, Crystal Westmoreland, Marissa Burnett and Lee Burnett; her sister, Jeri Gaudet Layden; brother, James Laurent; great-grandchild, Kenzie Roussel and numerous nieces and nephews.
Myrtis was a talented seamstress and an exceptional award-winning ballroom dancer. She loved gambling, frequenting many casinos and bingo halls including The Napoleon Room, Gretna Bingo Hall and Treasure Chest. She worked for the Clerk of Court in Jefferson Parish and later had a Riverwalk business, 'Original Applique', selling hand-painted jackets. Myrtis was a longtime volunteer in East Jefferson General Hospital's Auxillary. She was loved by all she met and a dear friend to many. Above all else, she was a devoted and loving mother, wife and grandmother. She will be deeply missed by all.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Mass in the chapel at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at 12:00 noon. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m.
